About Us

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about our school. Our Savior New American School was established in Centereach, NY in 1992, although the Pre-School program has been serving the community since 1967.
Lead by Headmaster Rev. Ronald W. Stelzer and the Principal Mrs. Dolores Reade, Our Savior New American School offers a wide variety of education for all grades. While centering on a biblical base, OSNAS delivers pure concepts and teaching, preparing the next generation for further education and the life ahead.

OSNAS Mission Statement

Our focal point is the Gospel of Jesus Christ; the foundation is the Bible; and the primary goal is to help parents instill the love of God and the love of learning in each student. It is an integral and inseparable part of the ministries of Our Savior Lutheran Church, the church that this school was founded upon.

Why Christian Education?

You may be asking yourself, "Why should I consider Bible-based education?" Well, Christian schools open up to children both the Word and the world. Scholar J. Gresham Machen said, "An education that trains the mind without training the moral sense is a menace to civilization rather than a help." The Bible says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). Martin Luther said, "I'm afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labor in explaining Holy Scriptures and engraving them in the heart of the youth." Much has been written about the "dumbing down" of our public schools. Rev. E. Ray Moore, Jr. wrote, "Today's public school graduates do not have the mastery of basic subjects that earlier generations had. Students are leaving public high schools in record numbers without having acquired basic writing skills, reading comprehension, or mathematical ability. This intellectual deterioration has spread into public colleges and universities that have admitted more and more unprepared students into college-level work." Because Christian School students generally perform at a higher level in the classroom than their public school counterparts, they are more likely to be better prepared to handle education. They have also received the spiritual foundation they need to excel. Students who have been grounded in the truth of God's Word day after day during their formative years, both at school and at home, are better equipped to handle discrepant ideas upon graduation. Whether in a secular university or in the work place, young adults with a solid biblical education are far less likely to fall victim to the subtle lies of our culture.

Why Our Savior New American School?

The next obvious question would be, "Well what is so special about OSNAS then?" OSNAS offers a strong academic approach to education, which gives children a thorough knowledge of basic factual material, equips them to think, and ultimately enables them to become Christian leaders for the next generation. Training and education are most successful when there is an ongoing, cooperative effort involving home, church, and school. OSNAS is an extension of the home, whose task is to bring children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord; and the Church, whose mission is to, " Go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe whatever [Jesus has] commanded" (Matthew 28:19-20). The biblical and philosophical goal of OSNAS is to develop students into mature, Christ-like individuals who will be able to exhibit a Christ-like life. OSNAS works with the home and church to assist young people to grow toward mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual maturity.
